The range of anti-snoring products is aimed primarily at: people looking for simple, effective solutions, but also at specialist doctors (ENT specialists, lung specialists, sleep physicians) and pharmacists. Our aim is to offer solutions to provide quality sleep to the 20% of the population affected by snoring or sleep apnoea.
Causes of snoring and sleep apnoea
Snoring is caused by a narrowing of the airways during sleep. When the muscles of the throat relax, the back of the tongue moves back, reducing the passage of air. This generates turbulence and causes the soft tissues of the palate and pharynx to vibrate, producing the characteristic snoring noise.
In more serious cases, these obstructions can become total, leading to breathing pauses known as sleep apnoea. These interruptions, sometimes lasting several seconds, disrupt the sleep cycle and can cause chronic fatigue, concentration problems, headaches, poor recovery, reduced libido, and significantly increase cardiovascular risks (hypertension, stroke, etc.).
A number of factors contribute to snoring or aggravate apnoea: excess weight, alcohol consumption, smoking, sleeping pills, severe fatigue, or lying on your back at night. Anatomical abnormalities such as a deviated nasal septum or dry mucous membrane can also play a negative role.
Which anti-snoring solution(s) should I choose?
Oscimed SA offers a range of solutions that can complement each other to respond to the diversity of causes of snoring and apnoea:
– Mandibular advancement orthosis is recommended in most cases of snoring or mild to moderate apnoea. By slightly moving the lower jaw forward by a few millimetres, it frees up the passage of air and is effective from the very first night. For optimum results, it is essential to choose a model that is adapted to your body shape and needs: SomnoFit-S or -B (depending on the jaws), SomnoFit or Somnolis. Anti-snoring orthosis SomnoFit-S is the most advanced of our technologies in terms of mandibular advancement. In fact, it adapts perfectly to the jaw thanks to its thermoforming, a system for taking impressions of the dentition that you can do yourself according to your needs. the instructions provided. It is more discreet in the mouth than the orthosis. SomnoFit. The latter is more economical but has a greater presence in the mouth. As for Somnolis, Thanks to its very affordable price, the splint is suitable for small budgets. It is recommended as a first approach to orthoses to test mandibular advancement before moving on to more advanced solutions, or simply for occasional use (holidays).
- Positional treatments are proving highly effective for snoring sufferers who sleep on their backs, and can be used in conjunction with an orthosis if required. Sleeping on your side helps to reduce the backward movement of the tongue, keeping the airways clear. Devices such as PosiForm pillow, the anti-snoring waistcoat or the PosiForm-Belt vibrating belt are used to encourage this position. These products are considered to be non-invasive and can be used on a daily basis in the same way as orthoses.
- Finally, good nasal breathing is also essential. If the nose is blocked or obstructed, air passes through the mouth, making snoring worse. The use of nasal dilator ClipAir, It can also be a simple, discreet and non-invasive solution. Like positional treatment products, it can be worn in conjunction with an anti-snoring orthosis.
Another Oscimed SA innovation is Sanabrux: an anti-bruxism splint. For people who grind or clench their teeth, commonly known as bruxism, Oscimed SA offers a thermoformable mouthpiece that can be applied to the upper teeth to ensure a peaceful night's sleep and protect the teeth.
